Interceptor Vessel Named After French Metal Band GOJIRA
December 2, 2010Sea Shepherd, a global anti-whaling organization, has unveiled its new newly acquired, fast interceptor vessel to obstruct whaling this year. Dubbed "Gojira", (which is based on Godzilla's Japanese kaiju name),it will soon head to the Southern Ocean.
The mayor of Fremantle, Western Australia, officially christened Gojira during a ceremony in Fremantle's fishing boat harbor earlier this week. Mayor Brad Pettitt presented Fremantle's flag and an engraved plaque with the city's coat of arms to Captain Locky MacLean for Gojira's maiden voyage to defend the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
French extreme/progressive metallers GOJIRA entered a Los Angeles, California-area studio in early November with producer Logan Mader (ex-MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist) to begin recording a new four-song EP, the proceeds from which will benefit Sea Shepherd,. The EP will feature appearances by several "very special guests."
"We'll record and produce [four] songs that [we] will sell on our web site without going through traditional ways," guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier said in an April 2010 French-language video interview. "The benefits of sales will be donated to Sea Shepherd. There will be guests from the international metal scene [on the record]."
GOJIRA recently supported METALLICA on a short European tour. Also on the bill was FEAR FACTORY.
